WOODCUT artist's reception at Esopus Space on 5/2

APRIL 16 – JUNE 5, 2012
“BRYAN NASH GILL: WHAT WAS WILL BE AGAIN”
Artist’s Reception: Wednesday, May 2nd, 6 to 8 p.m.
Esopus
64 West Third Street, #210
New York, New York 10012
A site-specific installation by the Connecticut-based artist Bryan Nash Gill featuring an eight-color, 122-square-foot woodcut print with applied monoprint that mirrors the gallery’s OSB particle-board floor. The piece, consisting of nine separate components printed from four woodblocks and four Plexiglas stamps, correlates with an eponymous project Gill created for Esopus 18, which will be launched jointly at a reception for Gill on May 2nd. The title of the exhibition and project references the fact that Esopus Space, which has staged 18 exhibitions and more than 30 events in the past three years, will officially close when Gill’s show ends on June 5th.

Our beautiful new book Woodcut, collects these exquisitely detailed large-scale relief prints for the first time.

For the launch of the multimedia publication Sleepwalkers Box, musical directors Hisham Akira Bharoocha and DFA’s Jonathan Galkin will create a live percussion and electronic score alongside visuals from Doug Aitken’s 2007 MoMA installation, Sleepwalkers, on multiple video projections inside the MoMA PS1 Performance Dome. The performance incorporates prerecorded music from the box soundtrack, which includes unreleased tracks by Broadcast and others. The soundtrack weaves in and out of the live drumming, set to the videos, to create an all-immersive sonic and visual experience. A commemorative poster by the artist and Princeton Architectural Press will be distributed free at the event.
Copies of the signed limited edition (1000) Sleepwalkers Box will be for sale at the event and at www.sleepwalkersbox.com
