"I learn more from creative people in other disciplines than I do even from other architects..."
-- Tom Kundig (Quoted from an interview with James Murdock)
Tom Kundig has done it again but this time the name of the house is Montecito Residence. Set against an undulating backdrop of hills in the fire-prone Toro Canyon and opens out into the Pacific Ocean horizon, Montecito Residence (photos below) has recently been awarded the American Architecture Awards 2008 by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design alongside 65 other recipients.

I’ve always been fascinated by Tom Kundig’s work, notably the Rolling Huts and my favorite of all, the Delta Shelter. Those houses are an expression of what I think is the subtle reduction of architectural grammar to a minimal expression of simple lines and tectonics within the context of its landscape. - Ed
