"We live in space, we live with void."

Each of the squares symbolizes the buildings around the in-between spaces. White grids represent crossing streets or hutong as well. The occupations of the in-between spaces are depicted in the picture. There are some textures on some of the squares which illustrate the variety of the buildings. They also show the culture background of the in-between spaces. The squares are aligned by a nine-by-nine grid pattern which symbolizes longevity in Chinese culture as the number nine is the most auspicious number in the Chinese belief. Most importantly, the dark dots that seem to appear and disappear rapidly at random intersections signify the in-between spaces.
